Marjolein Dallinga - Prato - Italy
Marjolein Dallinga, my dear friend since secondary school, was born in the Netherlands, but she has been living in Canada for decades now. While we lost sight of each other for many years, we were both introduced to the world of felting independently from each other.
When her solo exhibition 'The Garden Of Delights' opened, followed by her 3-day workshop, I traveled to the town of Prato in Italy to attend. It was a wonderful time: meeting Marjolein, the fabulous exhibition that fit so well in the fantastic textile museum in Prato, the inspirational workshop Marjolein gave at DHG and the Italian atmosphere, obviously. A journey to remember forever . . .
For this exhibition Marjolein created 14 large sculptures in the past year. Marjolein: "The painting has a duality which I see in my own work: monstrousness and tender beauty. In daily life we try to make ourselves understood in the language of others, but in the night, when our rationality falls asleep, an unbounded self speaks to us in her very particular language. My work comes from this dreamy world".
The exhibition is open for viewing until 29 January 2017
